The Purple Mermaid: Behind the Scenes

Every artist needs a personal project to sharpen their skills and rejuvenate their creative souls! This project was an amazing opportunity for me because it paired my love of photography with my love of mermaids! Yes, MERMAIDS! Here is a behind the scenes look at The Purple Mermaid photoshoot!

The Purple Mermaid

If you know anything about me, you know that I am enchanted by these elusive, beautiful, and slightly terrifying mythical creatures.

When Megan Dooner, designer, model, and owner of Creator Costume Design, presented me with a plan for this shoot I was thrilled! As Megan who is also The Purple Mermaid began the process by renting the tank from Circus Siren Pod she then made the drive up from North Carolina for the shoot. Megan has a unique vision for everything she creates and it’s always spectacular! It’s no surprise that the costumes she is wearing are her beautiful designs.

Photographers Paul Seymour and Don Rosenberger behind the scenes

I was also happy to be working alongside Professional Photographers Paul Seymour and Don Rosenberger on this project! Especially as we collaborated on what to bring for lighting in addition to planning how to get the perfect shot. As a team, Paul and Don set up the lighting while Megan and I situated and positioned props in just the right locations. Although this can be both fun and tedious work it’s always worth it in the end!

Ultimately the finished image of The Purple Mermaid that I composited was my vision. Can you see it? I was thinking Little Mermaid with her Dinglehopper Fork! In addition to the fork, if you take a closer look, there’s more to see in the images, and all of the items make it so interesting to look at. I hope you enjoy viewing these images as much as I enjoyed creating them!
